Food isn’t everything, but it is the foundation. Each $2.02 provides a complete meal for one person!
By the time someone comes to us, they are desperate. They need food, but not just any food. They need healthy, nourishing food.
Then, and only then, can their bodies and minds begin to heal. Then, and only then, can they really see clearly. Then, and only then, can they begin to take steps to change their lives.
Kelly didn’t know it, but before she came to the Mission, her family often wondered when she’d take her last breath.
“I was very emaciated,” she says. “My hair was falling out and I weighed 100 pounds.”
Kelly’s health crisis started after her beloved husband died.
“It was just like a bomb went off,” Kelly remembers. “There was such grief, and I tried to shove it down with vodka and beer.”
As the months went on, Kelly drank more and ate less. She lost her job and was evicted from her house. Needing safe shelter, she came to the Mission. Here, friends like you not only gave her a safe place to sleep, but provided nourishing meals.
“In the beginning I don’t remember a whole lot of stuff . . . But I remember the meals. The meals were great,” she says. “It helped me realize that there were people that really, really wanted me to be ok.”
Each meal Kelly ate strengthened her body and mind, helping her realize she want-ed to change her life. Within two weeks, she was in our New Life Recovery Program.
Kelly graduated from the Mission’s program in 2023 and last May earned a certificate in Drug and Alcohol Counseling from Santa Rosa Junior College. She’s also reconnected with her family and when her daughter moved back to the area, they even decided to move in together!
“I cannot thank or uplift the Mission more. I know it’s saved my life,” Kelly says.
“I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.”
– Jesus (John 6:51, NIV)
Every meal you give can demonstrate God’s love, spark hope and help someone take steps to change their life.
“The Redwood Gospel Missions continue to add significant value in our community. One of their greatest contributions to those they serve is the offering of hope. Hope for a better life, which is a benefit to all of us.”
