What is Conversations On A Bench?

Redwood Gospel Missions’ will be joining over 60 Rescue Missions as part of “Conversations On A Bench” from Thursday, October 9th at 12pm unti Friday, October 10th at 12pm. Redwood Gospel Missions’ Executive Director, Jeff Gilman, will be spending 24 hours having conversations with community leaders, current New Life Program Members, alumni, guests, passerby, staff, volunteers and more. We will also join the national stream to hear from other Rescue Missions around the nation. 

“Conversations on a Bench” is a unique event that unites Rescue Missions across the nation. This initiative shares powerful stories of hope, transformation, and resilience, emphasizing the incredible impact of connection and community.

The benches featured in this event are more than seats; they represent a place of connection, reflection, and the start of something new.

Thrift Items We are Unable to Accept

We are unable to process the following list of items due to environmental concerns, expensive landfill costs, our inability to make repairs or our inability to lift the item.

  • Window air conditioners, water heaters, water softeners
  • Built-in appliances or any appliance needing repair and/or with rust or mold
  • Gas appliances
  • Appliances must be clean and plugged in
  • Built-in bookcases or cabinets
  • Car batteries, used car parts, or tires
  • Chemicals of any kind, including paint or pesticides
  • Console TVs, console stereos, and TVs 24” wide or larger, Projection TVs
  • Large exercise equipment
  • Car Seats, Cribs—anything that could be a safety issue
  • Item that is ripped, worn, discolored, has stains/soiling, odors, tears, animal hair, scratches, peeling, cracking, rust, grease, weak springs or any structural damage which require repair
  • Pianos, organs
  • Single kitchen or dining chair
  • Glass top tables, unframed mirrors
  • Stuffed animals and pet toys
  • Large desks and/or hutches, computer desks, roll-top, wall units, entertainment centers
  • China cabinets
  • Sinks or toilets (commodes are OK)
  • Wall-to-wall carpet, padding, foam
  • Window blinds, draperies, or rods
  • Cassette tapes, VHS tapes (CDs, DVDs, are OK)
  • Printers
  • Mattresses/box springs
  • Beds, sofa beds
  • Electric bed frames
  • Bed pillows
  • Sewing machine cabinet without machine
  • Pre-installed light fixtures, fluorescent bulbs
  • Encyclopedia, magazines, textbooks
  • Other: disassembled or particle board furniture, incomplete items
  • Large holiday items “in season” only
  • Christmas items, including Christmas trees (IN BOX accepted Oct-Jan)
  • All small items need to be secured in boxes or bags
  • Please tie bags and do not overfill boxes

Breaking free from a life controlling issue isn’t easy.

Our New Life Program is for men and women who are ready to put their life controlling issues behind them and start a new life. With a focus on Jesus, you can be free.

Statement of Faith

  • We believe the Bible to be the inspired, only infallible, authoritative Word of God.
